Week 35

I know.  I'm very ashamed of myself.  I was at the beach TWICE on Saturday and didn't take a SINGLE picture of the surf. *hangs head*.  Instead, I have a really REALLY bad macro shot of nothing much. :-/  Ah well...there's another one due next weekend so I PROMISE I'll get that one.

Longtails

Unfortunately I have not been able to do much in the realm of longtail photography this year as my zoom lens is in desperate need of cleaning.  I realized though that I haven't put any pictures of my favorite subject material up here (except the poor examples in the Picture Per Week project) so here are some of my better shots.

Ghosting Images

One of the things I love to do with my camera is create "ghosts".  This is all done with just the camera using a feature called "multiple exposures".  I suggest all you photographers viewing this check to see if you have this feature on your camera if you haven't already.  The trick to ghosting an image is to first place the camera on a tripod or some other support, then take a picture, remove the object you wish to ghost, and then take another picture.  The two images are then stacked and your ghost is made.  Sometimes I find that using three images (two with the object, one without) produces better results as the ghost is more visible but still transparent.  This effect also works with people, but with people you can't take two pictures with them in it as we humans move a bit and would blur the image.

Here is an example.  I call it "Blooms Gone By"

Week 34

After much debate with myself I've decided on one of the pictures I got of this heron Saturday evening.  Actually, that's not quite true yet; as I'm typing this I'm trying to decide.  Anyways (and here I'll ramble to give myself more time to decide) it was at a pool party and this heron just flew onto the pool deck.  I slowly approached it with my camera getting closer and closer as it moved slowly away from me.  Eventually, I was so close my camera couldn't actually focus anymore....just as I turned to tell my brother that it flew off.  Anyways.  The picture of the week. (arg I still haven't decided...time for a coin flip).

Barcelona

So yes, my trip to Barcelona was well over a month ago and the only pictures anyone has ever seen are the two pictures of the week here on the blog.  Time to change that...but this will take a little while.

Pictures.

A flower pot, Gaudi style.  All that glass is from old bottles and the like.

Chandelier...also in Gaudi style.

Swirly roof and chandelier.  Also in the same building by Gaudi as the two previous pictures.

This was part of a really cool stair column.  The tiles faded to a darker blue the higher you went up so that when you look up at the skylight at the top of the column all the tiles appear the same colour.  Didn't work perfectly but it was cool all the same.

The roof of the building.  It has been said to look like a dragon's back with a lance through it, representing the legend of Sir George and the Dragon (wait...was it St. George...?)

The front of the building on the right; on the left is another building by a different but just as, er, original as Gaudi.

This peacock was one of many strutting about at the zoo in Barcelona.  I had it trapped on a balcony for pictures...at least I thought I did until it actually flew down.

More Gaudi (can you sense a theme here?)

Monserrat, just north of Barcelona.  AMAZING views from the mountain.

More shots of the monastery at Monserrat...my picture of the week for week 27.

How did I get this shot of an empty floor in a major tourist attraction?  PATIENCE!  That and taking pictures of everything else while keeping an eye on the floor for an opportunity (I didn't sit there with my camera pointed this way just waiting. :-P)

More views from the hike along one of the trails in Monserrat.  Unfortunately my parents were intent on getting back ASAP so I had to snap pictures really fast and run to catch up.

A building on the hike.

Another shot of the mountain.

This covers about a day and a half of the trip. I'm not sure if I should be inserting a :-/ smiley or a :-P smiley here.  I'll post more later (like I said this will take a little while).

Week 27

After much heeing and hawing I've chosen this one as my picture of the week.  Hopefully at some time in the near future I'll put up more from our trip to Barcelona (at which time there will probably be comments such as "What on earth possessed you that you didn't pick THIS picture???") but that also may be a little while away.

This picture was taken in Monserrat just north of Barcelona.  This is at around 700 metres up, or around 2300 feet (roughly).

Week 33

So here's Week 33.  Since I'm now coaching sailing from 8:30-12 and sailing from 1-4 every day (I get home at about 5) I haven't been spending much time with my camera...thus, a grainy, high ISO macro of Mah-Jongg tiles.  The title came to me after the shot...it wasn't set up for the title, I promise.  Just to explain, the tile furthest left is a "season" or bonus tile; the number 2 means it is player two's tile (south)...if they get it they get to double their score.  The other three are fours of Wan...one of the suits in Mah-Jongg.

Week 33 (August 14, 2010) "One two and three fours"

I now have my aunt's shot.  I assume this is called "Propeller"

Just because I can....

Picture for Week 32.  All the other weeks will take a while to pick, so I figured while the picking is easy I may as well post it.  Guess what it's called....

Also, as my aunt and uncle are also doing this I'm going to start putting up their weekly shots in the weekly pic post.

Week 32 (August 7 2010) "Chandelier"

Week 26

Well I've chosen my shot for week 26.  Finally.  The jury is still out on 27.

Weeks 21-25

I got stuck on week 26.  That was when we were in Barcelona, so it may be a little while before I can go through my couple thousand pictures (that's not an exaggeration) and pick just two for the two "weeks" we were there (half of one week and most of another).  So I figured I should just put up weeks 21-25 now.

Week 21 (May 20 2010) "Longtail"

Week 22 (May 24 2010) "Eye of the Storm"

Week 23 (June 2 2010) "Washington Monument"

Week 24 (June 12 2010) "T-Ball Slugger"

Week 25 (June 19 2010) "Water Ball"*

*Yes, a little last second desperation on my part.  That ball is supposed to bounce on water.

Pictures of the Week(s)

I started this thing at the beginning of this year with my aunt and uncle which entails taking at least one picture a week and putting all these weekly shots together in one place.  Recently, I've fallen down on the job of keeping them organized so my aunt and uncle have subsequently been hounding me to get my act together and organize them/email them to them (since we're in this together we email each other the pictures).  So now I'm uploading weeks 1-20 on here in this post and then weeks 20-30ish (I don't know exactly which week we're on) once I get them organized.

Warning: Some of them are not in any way, shape, or form, any good. ;-)

The date is the date the shot was taken, if that's not obvious. ;-)

*My kite for Good Friday, before and after trying to fly it.  It never did get up.  The picture doesn't show the damage very well.  It was a lot worse off than it looks.
