More ornaments

I've got a large amount of ornament pictures scheduled to be uploaded here...so brace yourselves.  This will be the only one tonight; more coming tomorrow.

Here's something for you all to try; take a picture of yourself through an ornament (as in, the reflective surface) and upload it on your blog/an image hosting website.  I meant to do this waaaay earlier in the season but just never got around to taking my own picture.  At any rate, mine is here now.  And yes, it actually had to be posed...two second exposures with a five second timer to reduce shake are not people-friendly. ;-)

Winter Wonderland

These shots are of a winter scene my aunt sets up every Christmas season.  Obviously it attracts me and my camera to it like iron to a magnet.

Week 52

Theoretically speaking this is the last week of the year...the 52nd week.  However, since week 1 for us was just two days we still have week 53 for this week.  And then we just go right on through to the next year with week 54 starting on January 2, 2011.

By mutual agreement (wait...isn't "mutual" just two parties?) we decided to all take a picture of a ornament ball with our names on it for this week.  Everyone in the family has them.  I came close to bailing out when I saw some decorations in my aunt's house when we went there for Christmas dinner but turns out those shots didn't come out nearly as well as I had hoped.  I think I had the light settings messed up or something.  Unfortunately, my ornament ball shots didn't come out that great either; not that they weren't sharp or light properly, it's just that the composition of the shots were not very good.  And since the ball is from the bottom of the frame to the top I really can't crop enough for it to be effective.

Week 51

Week 51.  Almost finished with 2010, although my aunt, uncle, and I all agree that we're going to keep going with it next year. :)  What's going to be a point of discussion though is that technically the week after Christmas is going to be week 53 as we started on New Year's at the beginning of this year, which was a Friday.  Thus, the final week after Christmas is just missing the Saturday, but if we carry on through are we going to have week 53 and then 54(1) on the Saturday?

At any rate, the pictures.

More Ornaments

Boy is it ever hard work to take pictures of ornaments.  Every shot has to be carefully framed, which involves adjusting the tripod height a few times, then focused, which involves moving the tripod towards or away from the tree (and trying to figure out how close you can get to the tree without knocking it over).  Then the auto-focus needs some fiddling with.  Then I make sure my shutter speed is more or less right.  Then I take a picture.  But that's not all.  More likely than not the picture will be too light or two dark and I have to fiddle again with the shutter speed, and if I'm not careful I have to repeat the whole focusing bit again.

That's not to say I don't absolutely love doing it. :)

Week 50

The year is slowly drawing to a close...just another two weeks of this project.  Who knows...I may do it again next year.

Christmas Ornaments

Title says it all.  About fifteen minutes spent constantly changing macro filter and tripod height...that's fifteen minutes well spent. :)

'Tis the Season...

...to put aside Omnibus reading for pictures!

Our model train set depicting a winter scene which was supposed to be finished some three years ago is finally on the verge of completion.  These shots are of the skating rink which we did one (two?) years ago.

Week 49

What a surprise.  I'm actually making a timely weekly photos post.

Oh, and while I'm thinking of it, I am working on getting that recording on here.  Still haven't had word from them when we can get the CD or DVD, whichever form it comes in...
Yes you've already seen this before...
