Macro Experiments

When I was taking my picture for the week I did some experimenting with the macro shots.  It was a thirty second exposure, so I decided to try some things and one thing that was pretty cool (I thought) was adjusting the focus ring while the picture was being taken.  The shot below displaying this effect is very imprecise...I think if this was carefully perfected it could result is some pretty sweet shots.

Also, I tried a little of zoom technique; zooming out while the exposure is being taken.  I've now learned that this doesn't work too well with a thirty second shutter.  But the results are there anyways so you can see what it does.

And the fact that I like Dungeons and Dragons shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, really.

Week 3

Week 3 has now come and gone...and so far I'm three for three on taking pictures on Saturdays.  I should maybe consider getting out more during the week. :-P

And don't ask me what's up with my cousin's naming pattern...she's...well...special.

Hockey

As stated in my previous post, I went to my brother's hockey game on Saturday.  Here are the better shots I got.  I think I should maybe go more often. ;-)

Week 2

This blog's been a little neglected as of late.  In unrelated news, Omnibus exams are looming.

Week 2.  I was able to go to my brother's hockey game Saturday which provided me with an opportunity for pictures and testing out the focus speed of my new lens.  Both had good results.  I did have one shot which if I was shooting at a 250 shutter speed instead of 200 would have been the shot of the week...but I was shooting at 200 so it didn't come out well enough.

Week 2 (January 15, 2011)

Week 1 2011

So here it is. The first week of 2011.  Felt just like many of the weeks in 2010, as in, I waited until the last minute to take my picture.

This year my cousin Alexandra is joining us, but at the time of writing this post she still hasn't sent in her picture (although she has taken it).  Also, another uncle of mine is doing a sketch each week this year so the weeks I get those (probably most, if not every week) I'll put them up here as well.

Oh, and, my aunt finally named one of her pictures!  Let's all give her a round of applause. :)

Final Week for 2010

So this is the end of the first year of this project.  As you all should know by now we're continuing through 2011, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if we did it in 2012 as well.  Who knows how long this will go?

After much consideration I finally selected my picture for this.  To me, this one just had "it".  My remaining options weren't that great either in comparison, so there you go.

Week 53 (December 31, 2010)
"End of the Year"

Uncle Glenn
"Window Treatment"

Aunt Deanne
(Her New Year's resolution is to name more of her shots.  Finally. :-P)

End of 2010

So I'm three days late.  I'm sorry.

For the end of the 2010 year of the picture-per-week project I decided to go get a sunset picture; it would fit well with the sunrise I took to start the year.  Sadly the weather didn't cooperate and I was stuck with beautifully clear skies overhead and a ring of clouds all around the horizon.  I took pictures anyways but only one or two are being considered for the picture of the week honors.  I also went and took pictures of car light trails and tried to take pictures of the hotel Christmas lights.  Which of these shots would YOU choose for the picture of the week?

Hillside Village

Our own little winter diorama is finally finished for this year...the mountain needs a good deal of work but otherwise it's more or less done.  Ever year since I was about two we would have a train running around the Christmas tree, and every year it got more and more involved until we finally decided to make a permanent track out of it; hence this winter layout.

For some reason though I've had trouble taking pictures of it.  I can't quite put my finger on what it is but it seems a lot of the shots I take just don't look quite right.  I'll keep trying though.

Notice how white it all is in this shot compared with the rest.  I'm not at all sure what caused that.
